History Alert: First Beach Dawgs Game May 25
The first-ever home opener for the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs will also be our first-ever live broadcast from the stadium. The team will take on the Bay Area Toros from Texas City, and we intend to have a good time with everyone in the crowd.
About The Team
The Beach Dawgs became an official team in just February after the former tenants of Fairgrounds Field, the Coastal Bend Aviators, closed up shop and left everyone in a lurch last fall. The Beach Dawgs’ front office has done a remarkable job of cleaning up a mess and getting things ready for Season 1 in a very short time.
Fireworks scheduled for after game 1. Midget wrestling during game 2. Party time, for sure.
(We’ve got a lot of non-locals in the audience, so, I suppose, we need to mention that the Beach Dawgs are not the only minor league baseball team in the Corpus Christi area. The Corpus Christi Hooks are affiliated with the Houston Astros. That means they are the city’s corporate-run team. While the owner of the Beach Dawgs is quick to say his team is not intending to compete directly with The Hooks, we at HossTheBoss.com like to keep our lives as corporate-free as possible. We always support the “Under Dawgs.” Who are the Hooks?)
About Our First Show
Since we’ll probably have a few technical difficulties during the first game or two, we figure the very best way to get started with The Beach Dawgs on HossTheBoss.com is to just join us out at the dang stadium. We will have maybe the world’s only “Open Press Box” policy. If you want to participate in the broadcast, all you have to do is just come up to our little window and get our attention. We’ll bring a cordless microphone over and shoot the bull with you. We’ll also be circulating through the crowd with the mic, too.
You can listen to yourself when you get home from the game: we run replays about two hours after game ends, and we’ll play “best of” shows on nights when The Beach Dawgs are out of town. (Yeah, this season, we won’t be traveling with the team. Support the show in a big way, though, and we’ll invest in a road crew next year.)
I know, I know. We’re on the internet. Most people reading this are a long way from Fairgrounds Field in good ole’ Robstown, Texas. We’ll just have to ask you folks to bear with us through the dang technical difficulties. But even you can participate in the show. Assuming our telephone system works right, you can call in at 361-288-1827. You can also send us a Skype message to “hossthebosscorpus.” And, of course, you can post a comment on the bottom of this page. We’ll respond accordingly on the air.
The guys who will be helping me with the broadcast are going to be entertaining, for sure. I’ll be telling you more about them, and they will be posting stuff in this section, as the season gets going.
