Black Oak Arkansas – Lord Have Mercy On My Soul (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 3

This is one of those classic songs from my youth growing up in Michigan! It’s one of those great albums that had a dual use: you  could play it while you sifted it! LOL!

Cooder Graw – Lifetime Stand (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 1

This is one of my favorite Cooder Graw Songs of all time!

Dave Kirby – 3 Cords and a Bad Memory (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 2

Dave and Myself were at an Open Mic at this dive of a biker bar!  Dave asked me if I wanted to play some Hank Sr. Its only three chords! I looked at Dave and said “Sure, Three Chords and A Bad Memory and you have a #1 Country Hit.”  We went back to the table with a napkin and, well, here is what happened!  Thanks, Dave! My brother from a different Mother!

Doug Kershaw – Diggy Diggy Lo (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 1

I had just moved to Texas from Michigan and the first time I heard this Cajun Music I was glued to the TV!  Amazing sound and rhythm. One of the all time Cajun Favorites!

Hayes Carll – She Left Me for Jesus (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 1

A great song title and great tune! Kind of say’s it all!  LOL The only way to get left by a woman!

Hayseed Dixie – Fat Bottom Girls (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 3

What can you say. The name say it all and Dixie does a great job with this classic tune!

Jason Marbach – Until The Thrill Is Gone (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 1

The first time I heard Jason he was hosting an Open Mic I was sponsoring.  What a great talent, great song writer, performer and just an all round nice guy.  You will catch him on GAC some day!

Jim Starr – Sunrise Over Texas (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 2

Jim is one of my best friends and a great talent. This man has writtten and recorded more songs that are solid country hits.  You will hear one of his songs on the radio soon! He has played with me in a band I started called the Classic Rock Band. He is one heck of a front man, lead singer, guitar player and all ’round nice guy. I miss the days of sitting around Wharton at Jim’s 75 acre spread on the Brazos River and Jammin!  Thanks for everything, Jim!  Friends like you are hard To find!

Round 7 – Fishin’ (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the contest after Week 2

Alex Nelson gave me my first chance at being a musician.  I was about a 3 month old bass player and not very good. The first time I heard this song was at one of our practices. I liked it then and like it even more now!  Thanks Alex!

The Captain Legendary Band – Train Song (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 1

The first time I heard “Train Song” was when Charlie, Dustin and the band played at a benefit for me after a bit of a heart problem. This is a group of local Houston guys who are livin the dream, touring around Texas and Lousiana.  Great Talent! Great Guys! If Nashville was smart, you would hear them on the radio.  Thanks Charlie. I appreciate You!

About Me:

I guess you would consider me a late in life Musical Bloomer. I picked up my first guitar at the age of 49! I am 52 now. I have been fortunate to meet and play with a lot of artists the last few years. A self taught at the bass guitar, I have played with the following bands in the Houston area:  Round 7, Nine 1 Nine, The Paul Francis Band, The Ali Katz, The Classic Rock Band.  I was one of the original organizers for Houston Musicians Group,  an organization of almost 1000 musicians in the Houston Area.  I’ve spent a good deal of time since I joined the music scene setting up open mics, finding gigs for bands, helping sell gear, and, of course, making new musician friends!  I have been fortunate in being such a new comer to the industry and have had such a diverse exposure. I have been in the recording studio for 4 different Band’s!  And I’ve written and co-written some songs. Currently, my biggest project is a band I started with 2 close friends, Pat Workman and Tom Corkery. We’re called Highway 59! Check us out! I also have the largest bass players website on Myspace.  Over 2500 bass players from every country in the world.

Here’s where you can find me on the web (besides HossTheBoss.com)

I thought you’re the one who is always complaining about using that name! One of the reasons Catshit didn’t like me is that I refused to change my name just to be a DJ on KOUL. I told him that I’d always been Tony Kinsel on the radio, and I always would. He then suggested I use the name Tony Palomino! Sounds like a gay stripper. (Not that there’s anything wrong with being gay, as Seinfeld kept saying in one episode!). Even when I was on KFTX, I was Captain Midnight Tony Kinsel, not just Captain Midnight, like all the ones who went before and after me.

Actually, Tony, I gotta correct you on one point: Catfish’s ratings, from what I saw, were among the best that the station had ever seen. ‘Fish got fired from KOUL because the owners — and a lot of the people on the staff — were uncomfortable with his tactics. Fish is definitely a Wild Man. Very entertaining for those who don’t know him personally, and frustratingly arrogant for those who do know him well. If he wasn’t so caught up in the mind set of corporate radio — he currently works for a Clear Channel Station in California and his MySpace proudly promotes the latest Country Music Association Awards — he might be worth listening to.

Hey, and what the heck is wrong with the name Hoss The Boss! It is certainly better than Rawhide Ron!

And why are we having this discussion on Rick Jackson’s page! I bet he has no idea who Catfish even is!

I actually meant Catfish Jim Prewitt, I don’t know where that Hunter name came from. I’ve probably been trying to put him out of my mind for the last 16 years! Old insults run deep.
