Augie Meyers – My Freeholies Aren’t Free, Anymore  (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • Augie Meyers, who, on MySpace,  lists his hometown as the State of Texas, plays Texas Country, Blues & Americana Music. He played keyboards with the legendary Sir Douglas Quintet, and The Texas Tornadoes. He is now pursuing a mostly solo career, although he has been appearing with groups like the Red Dirt Rangers. He has 5 cds available through Hoss’s link to Amazon.com, and on his MySpace store link, which is down for repair at the time I’m writing this. His latest cd is called “Through the Years”, and was engineered and produced by his son, Clay Meyers. I’ve chosen the title track of another of his cds “My Freeholies Aren’t Free, Anymore” for the contest. I’ve posted a video of Augie Meyers doing the song “Hey Baby, Que Paso?” on my MySpace blog, dated 12-24-’08…

Back Porch Mary – We Are The Broken Hearted  (Buy, Dang It)
Booted from the contest after Week 2

  • Back Porch Mary hails from Austin, Texas, playing Texas Country, Rock & Southern Rock Music. Critics say their sound is not easily pigeon-holed, but, at the core, is Texas Country Rock & Roll, with just about every other kind of American music mixed in. They have 4 cds available through Hoss’s link to LSM, including their latest “Time Of The Broken Heart”, from which I’ve chosen their song “We Are The Broken-Hearted” for their entry in the contest. I’ve posted a video of them doing the song “I Fought The Law” on my MySpace blog, dated 10-09-’08, if you’d like to check it out….

D.B. Reilly – I’ve Got a Girlfriend (Buy, Dang It)
Finished 5th — Moves on to the Finals

  • D.B. Rielly is from New York, New York, playing his own brand of Americana music. When I found him on MySpace, I read that he was “born in the hearts and minds of lonely widows everywhere, and raised by travelling salesmen, until, at the age of 3, he was sent to the I Don’t Like Your Attitude, Young Man School Of Discipline”. His cd entitled “All Time Greatest Hits, Volume 1″ is available through Hoss’s link to his MySpace page. I’ve chosen his song “I’ve Got A Girlfriend” for the contest. He’s also sent me 4 of his cds to give away to HTB listeners, so be listening for that. I’ve posted D.B.’s video “We’re All Going Straight To Hell” on my MySpace blog, dated 8-31-’08….

Dust Devils – Robert Rolled His Pickup Truck Again (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • The Dust Devils hail from Marble Falls, Texas, playing, as they put it, “Southern Rockin’, Genre Bendin’, Farm-To-Market Rock & Roll”. Their cd “Gathering Dust” , which is available through Hoss’s link to LSM, swept the 2006 “Accursed” Texas Music Awards, gathering 4 awards for song of the year, album of the year, female vocalist of the year and best vocal duo of the year. I’ve nominated their song “Robert Rolled His Pickup Truck, Again” off that cd for the contest….

Gary Bonnett – San Angelo (Buy, Dang It)
Won the Dang January Contest — Moves on to Finals!

  • Gary Bonnett is a solo act from Tuscon, Arizona, and Rock Cave, West Virginia. Critics have described his sound as “a really good gumbo, with alot of subtle flavors like Bluegrass, Folk, Country & Southern Rock mixing together to form his own distintive brand of Southern Music”. He currently has 1 cd available through Hoss’s link to LSM called “The Long Road Home”,  from which I’ve chosen the song “Hillbilly Way” for the contest…. (but, since I was sick the first week and Hoss played the wrong damn cut, we’re going with San Angelo. That’s okay, though, San Angelo is the song that Gary is pushing to top of the Texas music charts these days).

Micky and the Motorcars – Naive (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • Micky & The Motorcars are from Austin, Texas, playing Texas Country & Americana Music. They’re a 4 man group, led by Micky and Gary Braun, the brothers of Willy and Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly. They currently have 4 cds available through Hoss’s link to LSM, including their latest release “Naive”, which was produced by legendary Texas musician Lloyd Maines. I’ve chosen the title track of that cd for their entry in the contest. If you’d like to see a video of them doing “Naive” check out my MySpace blog, dated 10-15-’08….

Roger Creager – The Everclear Song (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • Roger Creager currently hails from Houston, Texas, but is originally from here in Corpus Christi. He says he was raised on the music of Texas artists like Gary P. Nunn, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett and, of course, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. He currently has 5 cds available through Hoss’s link to LoneStarMusic.com or Amazon. I’ve chosen “The Everclear Song” off  Roger’s “Having Fun All Wrong” cd for the contest. By the way, Roger will be appearing in a charity concert here in Corpus Christi on February 6th to benefit Fiesta De Los Ninos. If you’d like to check out a video of Roger Creager doing the song “I’m From The Beer Joint” look it up on my MySpace blog, dated 10-23-’08…

Switchback – Bolintree (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • Switchback is from Ireland originally, and is now located in Chicago, working with the Waygood Productions Record label, playing Celtic, Folk Rock, Acoustic and Indie Music. The duo’s latest cd “Bolinree” was produced by legendary Texas musician Lloyd Maines, who I’ve mentioned before. Their record company thought it was geat that HTB wanted to play their music, and sent me two of their cds to add to our computerized rotation. Their cds are available through Hoss’s store link to CDBaby. I’ve chosen the title track of their latest cd for the contest and, if you’d like to see them do it, check out their video on my MySpace blog, dated 7-8-’08…

Tyler McCumber – White Trash Farm  (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • The Tyler McCumber band is from Gobbler’s Knob, Texas, playing Texas Country, Folk and Rock Music. Led by Tyler McCumber, they’re a 5 man group with a combined 80  years of on-stage experience. Tyler said, when people want to book him, he can come by himself, or with a 22 piece orchestra that plays the best Mexican Polka Music you’ve ever heard. They have 1 cd available through Hoss’s link to LSM, “Catch Me”, from which I’ve chosen their song “White Trash Farm” for the contest….

Wayne Hancock  – If You’re a Viper (Buy, Dang It)
Dropped from the Contest after Week 3

  • Wayne Hancock is from Austin, Texas, playing Texas Country, Western Swing & Rockabilly Music, or, as he puts it “music fit for any roadhouse, anywhere”. He’s been around for years now and has earned his reputation as “The King Of Western Swing”. He has 7 cds available through Hoss’s store link to Amazon.com. I’ve chosen his song “If You’re A Viper” off his “A-Town Blues” cd for the contest. I’ve also posted a video of him doing the song on my MySpace blog, dated 9-9-’08….

About Me:

I got started in broadcasting during my stint as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam era, working part-time as a DJ and newsman for a ship-board Armed Forces Radio & TV station on the USS Truckee out of Norfolk, Virginia.  After being honorably discharged in 1979, I became a mainstream radio DJ and News Director in the Corpus Christi area for over 25 years on 9 different stations, including all 3 of the country-western ones. During that time I received 4 news broadcasting awards, 1 from the Associated Press & 3 from United Press International. I spent the last 5 years of my “career” on KFTX in Corpus Christi, constantly fighting with the program director over having to play their narrow top-ten Nashville music playlist of songs, when I really wanted to play Texas Music. I was finally shown the door after I played a Christmas-time phone request for Robert Earl Keen’s “Merry Christmas From The Family”, which was definitely not on the station’s playlist, (I really hate that word!). Now that I’m on HossTheBoss I can play what I want. I’m working on getting my own show started on the station by early 2009,  so I hope you’re listening….
