Eric “Roscoe” Ambel – It’ll Only End in Tears (Buy, Dang It)

  • I genuinely respect Eric Ambel for his many talents: guitarist/producer and co-owner of Cowboy Technical Recording.  He has played with many of my favorite artists (Steve Earle, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Yayhoos, Del-Lords etc). He has also added a magical touch playing/producing with one of my influences Cheri Knight.  I had a hard time picking out a song but finally decided on “It’ll Only End in Tears“ from his album “Knucklehead“.  ENJOY!  www.ericambel.com

Jeff Ellis -  Not Leaving this Time (Buy, Dang It)

  • Jeff is a singer/songwriter (based in Huntington, WV) along with serving with the Army Reserve.  His credits include appearing on Mountain Stage, NPR, and one of the five co-winners in the 2008 Newsong international songwriting contest.  I got to know Jeff during our 2 year run of “Hollerpalooza”(an Eastern Kentucky festival).  Not only do I enjoy his music, I also appreciate our many conversations over bologna sandwiches.  “Not Leaving this Time“ is from his latest release “Covering the Distance“.  www.jeffellismusic.com

Laid Back Country Picker – Kathy With An Eight Ball (Buy, Dang It)

  • Legendary Nashville sideman from the 60s.  He decided to stop making everyone else rich and cash in himself.  He wrote and album worth of songs. Nobody liked them.  Now he is bitter and on the draw!  “Kathy with an Eight Ball” is about a gal of the bar life.  True story?  Not sure.  What I am sure of is that it’s a hit with me!  Website: www.myspace.com/laidbackcountrypicker

Night Train (Super Chimp) – 8th Grade Bride (Buy, Dang It)

  • Eastern Kentucky hillbilly rock band inspired by the Georgia Satellites and The Kentucky Headhunters.  Two thirds of the band reformed to make “Super Chimp”.  “8th Grade Bride” is a love song based on the mountain way of life.  Website:  www.myspace.com/superchimpmusic

Stand – Throw Away People  (Buy, Dang It)

  • Stand is an Eastern Kentucky band whose roots are stemmed in bar room venues.  Thanks to many prayers from their loved ones, they have all set aside their bar room days for testifying the word of Jesus Christ through music. This decision isn’t like the time Cartman from Southpark decided to create a Christian rock band.  These guys are the real deal!  Band members include James Ellis, Kenny Chaney, Jason McCoy, Dave Wright and Casey May. “Throw Away People” is only one of the inspirational tunes from their yet to be released CD that will be available soon on iTunes, CDbaby and other fine establishments.

The Kentucky Headhunters – Louisiana Coco (Buy, Dang It)

  • Forty years is a long time for a band to survive in today’s cutthroat music jungle. The secret? Richard and Fred Young, along with cousins Anthony Kenney, Greg Martin and long time friend Doug Phelps, never set out to play music for a living. They were born to be together and they live to play music. Some of the Kentucky Headhunters albums have sold in the millions, others in the thousands. However, one thing remains the same…they are one of a kind, originals.  “Louisiana Coco” is a song on their 2006 release “Flying Under the Radar” and one of my favorites to see them do live as it features the low tones of Richard Young on vocals.  I am on the same bill with these guys September 12th at this year’s Septemberfest in Louisa, KY!    www.kentuckyheadhunters.com

Toonce the Singing Lady – Box Car Tooncey  (Buy, Dang It)

Booted from the contest after Week 1

  • This mysterious lady loves tunes, playing strings, writing rhymes, and meeting people who understand her rage.  She is based out of Denton, Arkansas with obvious breathing challenges and a very vocal dog.  “Box Car Tooncey” is one that fans had wished I had featured last month.  Here is their chance to have their voices (votes) heard!  www.myspace.com/tooncethesinginglady

About Me:

Howdy!  I am Luna from eastern Kentucky.  I’ve been singing and playing for many years in different bands and I enjoy going to see bands known and unknown.  I have a soft spot for public/internet radio stations as they are the only stations where you can connect to a real live person.  Listening to real DJs with different tastes in music introduce ME to new CDs to buy and listen to.  Some DJ personalities are just a joy themselves to listen to.  I am very excited to be a part of the “Hoss the Boss” team for another month.
