Hoss’s CD Pick of the Day Show Coming This Summer

HossTheBoss.com has several new shows and features in the works, and one that we are most excited about is tentatively called “Hoss’s CD Pick of the Day.” (Yeah, I know that’s kind of a lame name, so, if you send me a better name that I end up using instead, I’ll give you a free lifetime membership to the show. See below what that entails.)

Yeah, we promised you that the show would be ready to go by mid-June, but that’s obviously not happened. So, let’s just say that we’re gonna get it going, just as soon as the dang thing is ready. (Well before the Fall of 2009, we hope!) In the meantime, here’s the scoop on what the show will be all about:

Each day (yep, 365 days a year), HossTheBoss.com will play an entire CD from a band that I’ve hand picked to be on the show. I’ll also interview the band during the show and post a review — along with lots of relevant links and clips from the CD — on the site. Most of the CDs I pick will be from independent bands that you’ve probably never heard of but that are amazingly talented anyway. So, this will be a great way for you to stay connected to the independent scene — from all over the world (and in many different “genres” even though I hate the word).

My main helper in this little project is Niece Brittinee who has been busy for several weeks contacting bands to send us their CDs to feature on the show. This show will happen every day, so we’re going to need a lot of CDs. That means, bands, this is your shot. If Brittinee hasn’t contacted you yet, please don’t fret. She will love to hear from you. Send her an email to brittinee@hosstheboss.com or contact her through MySpace. She’ll get back to you very fast.

There’s sort of a catch to this:

We’re committed to doing this show for exactly one year from when it starts. But whether we continue after that depends on how well you, dear listener, step up. See, one of the main goals with the show is to find a new way for independent bands to make money without having to rely upon the (often unreliable) people who own bars, booking agencies, beer companies, radio stations, record labels, etc. Call me weird, but I think a band is free to be at its best when it’s funded primarily by its listeners.

So I want you to help turn the tide of the music biz, a few bucks at a time.

A big part of Hoss’s CD Pick of the Day Show will be listener memberships that will sell for $5 a month. For that relatively tiny amount, we will send you each day an Mp3 of one of the songs from the Pick of the Day. And if you pay in advance for four months ($20 total), we’ll also throw in a CD of your choice.

The bands will get more than half of the money we collect from the memberships, and, after we pay our expenses, that leaves very little left over. So, we gotta have volume! Once we kick this thing off, I’ll keep a running tally on the site of the number of memberships we’ve sold. And, if that number is at more than 1,000 after the first year, we’ll do it again for another 12 months. Otherwise, well, let’s don’t think about otherwise.

While Brittinee and I are putting the finishing touches on getting this thing organized, contact me if we can count on you to be a member for $5/month. We won’t actually start collecting money until the show is ready to go. But knowing that you’re going to support this little venture will be a big help. (And I’ll be sure to contact you when the membership program is officially ready to accept members.)

Oh yeah, they say that hot chicks always help sales. so I guess I’d be remiss if I didn’t include a picture of Niece Brittinee here. (I don’t usually like to exploit my relatives like this, but Brittinee said she didn’t mind. In fact, she said I could point out that she’s single.) Send Britt an email and tell her you’re going to buy a dang membership, dang it.
