I’ve been following this contest for months, and the only problem anyone has had with the voting is that only one person per IP address can vote. I was in the hospital recently and tried to vote on my laptop, but it kept saying I had already voted. I guess someone else in the hospital was also voting in this contest. That sounds like the problem you’re describing, if you tried to vote and then your daughter tried to vote, and you’re both on the same computer, then the lock-out would have kept you from voting. Don’t be blaming the other artists or the DJ’s for the same voting problems that everyone is experiencing.
Wow. looking through some of the comments here …
You know, a couple of guys last month came in and entered negative-type comments that were SUPPORTIVE of me, at the expense of other artists, because that’s the kind of crowd I attract. I did my best to shoot them down. I realize that this contest is recreational, and that no one deserves to be put down.
But I’m ill after reading all of this.
The votes are the votes are the votes. Period. Get over yourselves, people. So your contestant isn’t number one. SO FUCKING WHAT. Try again? Realize that your contestant doesn’t have the same following as another? Accept that, just maybe, the song you’re voting for isn’t as good as someone else’s, or that it doesn’t attract the same type of appeal? Whatever. Just stop your fuckin’ bitching. You all look like assholes, and that’s coming from ME, THE KING OF THE ASSHOLES.
Even you, Debby. I love that you’re supportive of your daughter. I think that it’s great that your daughter is supporting other artists. But guess what? A LOT of the bands here are supporting other artists. Last month, myself and Six Gun Britt were promoting each other en route to battling for the last spot, which I won by 8 votes … and I felt bad about. How do YOU know, unequivocably (that’s a big word, just like gymnasium) that everyone that claims to be voting is actually voting? Are you at their homes, pushing the buttons for them? This is not a platform for this type of drama. You say you’re not sour, but just go back and read what you write, from anyone else’s standpoint, and you’ll see that, between the lines, there is a level of sourness and drama there. Sorry. I’m sure you’re a fine woman, and I know you want your kids to succeed, but I have to be honest. I have nothing to gain or lose by saying it .. and if it comes back to bite me in the ass later, that’s great. I enjoy a good bite in the ass every now and then.
The display this month has been even more sophomoric than I could ever imagine. You think that Hoss (who has had an excellent sense of humor about this), Rick, or Tony is going to feel compelled to continue this contest so long as everyone is accusing them of foul play? I know I wouldn’t.
I enjoy HosstheBoss. Been listening every chance I get. Tony mentioned to me entering another of my songs in this contest … but if it’s always going to be about bullshit when it comes to the voting, I’m really not interested. That even includes my song in the year-end contest. If I wanted to experience drama and tears, I’d turn on General Hospital, or go out and beat up (more) old people and take their wallets. Really, I’d just as well see Six Gun Britt have that opportunity anyway. I generate enough negativity on my own, I don’t need to go anywhere else to get it. If you don’t believe that, you should read the hate mail that I recieve daily … not just when I’m involved in some contest.
Every one of the people who came in here bitching about the votes this month should be ashamed. Just go and draw a circle in the corner and put your noses in it and stand there until I tell you to come out.
There. That’s my two cents, my negativity. All hail HosstheBoss for making this contest and offering each of these people an opportunity to get heard. Hoss, Tony, Rick … I’m sorry for the display you’re dealing with. You, your radio station, and your website deserve so much better than to be accused of any wrongdoing here. If you closed shop on this contest, you’d have my support in that decision. I wouldn’t put up with it, and I admire the guts you guys have to have put up with it so far.

This is why I hate emails they have no personality..
Ive always ask questions when it came to something my kid was involved with BIG OR SMALL..Its my job as her manager, Ive never been slapped for it until now.
tO answer your question , yes I was there when the button was pushed and it didn’t work for my kids vote..EVEN MY OWN VOTE…
I wasn’t mad, I first asked about this over two weeks ago. I think anyone would ask the same thing…
Im very thankful they played Rebel Child on their station..
Im also thankful the 200 plus radeos stations over seas are playing my kids music… Her song ‘CRIED WITH PRIDE ”Playing in Irag..
It was a simple question Hoss gave the answer and no more problem..
Im sorry if the DJ’S thought I was rude, I just did my job’ as any manager would…. We were ask to do this little song contest..Never wanted involved..but did it anyway..
I feel like me , my kid and her wonderful fans have been treated badly by comments..ONLY BECAUSE WE ASK A QUESTION,,,
You have no idea what we been through ..My kid has been treated like dirt from emails of other band members in this contest…They said her win may get her a $1.00 H.B. at MD

Debby, I’m sorry Shelby only came in 2nd in this contest, because she is a very talented young singer that I hope will soon be recovered from her injuries and well back on her way to stardom. I, personally, had been voting for both her and Ashley Austin, hoping for a tie for 1st place, so no one’s feelings would be hurt. The problem I have is with you, blaming the Djs & Hoss, saying they’re rigging the contest so your daughter wouldn’t win. These guys just don’t work that way. If Hoss had his way, everyone in the contest would win, but that’s just not possible, and, as Tony has said before, everyone in this contest is already a winner. If you need to blame someone, place the blame on Shelby’s fans, and yourself, for not getting the vote out for her, like Ashley’s people did. I would like to see Shelby in the contest again, because I really like her music, but I can do without the negative, foul-crying fans of hers. They need to get a life, and stop trying to cheat!

OMG , I can not beleive you wrote this. I never once acused anyone of cheating …I have no controll over what Shelby’s fan say….I ask a question as to why Shelby’s votes didnt add , and Hoss told me why…Im not a cheater and I have not slandered the Djs work in the contest..I ask a question.
This is the 2nd email I have received from you all about this…. I will walk away and I will post your comment to all Shelby’s fans .I am hurt you have acused me of wrong doing..
Also, I did promote my child in between hospitals and doctors..I dare you say I should have..I bust my ass for my kid and many other artist…THATS MY JOB….

Are you asking whether your votes showed up, or are you asking whether the Downing voting scam you’re part of is still in progress?
I feel very unhappy this morning. I do not like what I read . I do know that Shelby’s fans are all good people and I don’t like them called sour…No name calling please”
I donot like my childs name mentioned in anyones comments and Im sure Ashleys mom would feel the same way… Im not one to get in a piss fight over a small time song contest. We work with some of the best in the business, we are professionals….
I will say this and then we are out… My kid since 5 am thursday morning to 5 am friday morning has had less than a 100 votes added…….I have kept notes every hour on everyones votes….. I know she has way more votes coming in..But thats ok….
What ever reason my kids votes are not added I dont care…If its a problem with the voting thing or what ever its ok…. I do know my kids fans are not bitchin just to bitch.. Its fairness to all not just mine…. I myself do my own homework… And Im not sour…
I turn it over to the you and we will be done… I know problems happen in voting..it just really sucks for all..

One more thing I forgot to mention.. Just so you know what kind of people we are. We have always supported and promoted other artist for years.. Shelby has 3 young girls she is helping with their careers from out of state…
I wanted to say in this contest we have also been helping 2 artist voting for them..and posting bullitens asking Shelby’s fans to vote for them…… ‘SUNDAY MORNING HEADCOUNT’

Last month I discovered this website as a fan of Steve Carlson. His fans, including me and my family, were responsible for getting him over 3,000 votes to win August’s contest. I’d hate to see what kind of comments you’d have posted if your daughter had been going up against him, like Ashley Austin did. No one on hosstheboss is rigging the voting, it’s just your way of rationalizing the fact that your daughter is not getting the votes you think she should. Maybe you should have spent more time organizing the fans to vote every day, like Dee Reeves did for Steve, instead of posting all these long, nasty comments!!
No one is tripping here, we want to fair for everyone who is voting . It’s that simple.

I think it’s kind of strange that, looking back over the comments this month, every time Ashley Austin is in the lead, some of Shelby Downing’s fans start complaining about the voting. A couple of days ago Shelby was over 20 votes ahead of Ashley, and I didn’t see any of her fans questioning the voting process. Sounds like sour grapes to me!

If they’re freaking out this much over Ashley’s 20 vote lead, what kind of comments would they have posted if Shelby had been running against Steve Carlson this month, like Ashley did last month? They’d have been threatening to leave this contest in droves because of the “unfair voting”!

How many dang times do I have to say the following: VOTING IN THIS CONTEST IS NOT FOOL PROOF! Just like we all saw with the “hanging chads” of Florida, there is plenty of opportunity for people to not get their votes registered properly, even in the most seriously sophisticated of voting systems — and this, being for ENTERTAINMENT purposes only, certainly ain’t sophisticated or serious.
BUT IT ALSO AIN’T RIGGED, DANG IT!
Keep posting mean notes that publicly question my integrity and sense of fairness every time the site doesn’t work exactly as you assume it’s supposed too, and I’ll just go ahead and give you what you want: we can end the dang thing any time, you know.
People always ask me why I don’t do more to push HossTheBoss.com into the “big time,” and THIS crap is my answer. When you get to the “big time,” people who take stuff like this contest (and themselves) too seriously start trying to call the shots. And life’s too short to spend a lot of time dealing with crap like that. It’s just not how I roll.
So, since I apparently have to say things many different times in many different ways, let me try one more time right now: If this contest ain’t fun for you for some reason, please just go away. Complainin’ will get you nowhere, and it may just convince me to not go through the trouble to do this contest again in 2010.
Oh yeah, and those who don’t like my — admittedly very flawed contest — would be better off directing their bitchin’ toward outfits like Billboard Magazine and the Texas Music Chart. Those polls are probably even less scientifically sound than my little deal and they definitely ARE subject to much unethical rigging. Yet THEY are the reason why most of the bands in our little contest will have trouble making it to the “big time” too. Pick your battles! Start with THOSE guys, and, when you do, I hope you’ll come to realize that I’m right there with you, dang it. (Oh, and what about American Idol voting? Ever noticed that, unlike Hoss, they don’t even attempt to make a running total available during the week? Voters have absolutely no way of knowing if they are being recorded accurately. Where’s all the concern about integrity in THAT stupid little contest?)
Okay, now, before I get accused to being too bitter, angry and long winded, (probably too late on all three counts) I’ll close with this: thanks are definitely due to the many who get what this deal is all about! Don’t worry. My above threats were mostly just for show. I’m quite certain we’ll do this thing for many more years to come! And I’d LOVE to have Ashley, Shelby, and dozens of others who have been great sports about this contest ALL back for 2010 +

Oh yeah, one more thing… Our 2008 champion, Eric Malmstrom of the band Bretheren Soul still has not yet received the plaque I said we’d send him! (The guy who said he would make the plaque for free has gotten side tracked on other — presumably more profitable — projects.) If anyone has a right to complain about this dang contest, it’s Eric. And, last I heard from him, he was still just amazed that he found so many new fans through this deal. THAT’s what this dang show is all about!

I don’t have the time to write what I want to write, so I’ll just say I second what Hoss just wrote. I stopped reading the comments at 100, just because I knew they were going to become negative. I went back and just read some today, and I was right, they became negative. Gosh people, just lighten up and try to have some fun.
I’m sorry Shelby, if I would have known all of this would happened, I wouldn’t of entered you. Shelby received rude, and harrassing emails from other contestants (who were out of the contest after one round) and from fans of other contestants, which was totaly uncalled for. I don’t know what got in to these nuts, but I hope you can get a real life, and become a happy person some day. Shelby has been through enough from being in a car wreck a week or so before the contest, to falling and splitting her forehead open, a week ago. She did nothing to deserve the extra pain from jealous idiots out there. There was so much talented artist in this little contest, and I enjoyed listening them all. I found out about some new bands that I want to keep in touch with and follow their careers. If all you got out of this program was how unfair it was and any other negative issues, then you missed out on a great show, and some really great talent.
I’ve already spend way too much time on this subject.

I personally like Ashley Austin & Shelby Downing, and, despite having 6 of my song picks still in the contest, I’ve been voting for both of them this whole week, along with 3 of my other picks. And, all of my votes have been counted, as I checked the results before I voted and immediately after I voted, and my votes showed up for both of these very talented young ladies, and the other groups I voted for, as well.

May I point out that there is nothing to gain in this monthly contest EXCEPT fans and exposure. The girls are WAY OUT in the lead. Bickering over who’s in first means roughly shit, they’ll both be in the year-end contest.

And speaking even more of exposure… did ya’ll hear the recent story about the 91 year old guy who was sleepin’ naked and got woken up by an intruder. He sprang out of bed and tackled the guy and then corralled him by a tree in his front yard until police finally showed up.
