Hossey Music Award Show Changes Announced
You may have heard Deep Voice Guy and Friend say on the June 5 Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest Show that changes to the show are coming June 14. Well, after discussing the changes with a few “advisors” (i.e. listeners), I’ve decided to delay the changes until June 21 to give fans of the show just a little more notice of what’s going to happen. (And then, dang it, some technical difficulties, have caused me to have to delay the changes until Wednesday, June 23.)
With that said, here’s the deal:
First off… Please rest assured that the changes involve only the show, not the contest itself. The voting and such will continue on just as they have. And the ever-popular Saturday afternoon live show will change very little, too.
What I AM changing is the way we do the live show replays and the non-DJ version of the show. Here are the details.
- Each day — beginning June 23 — you can expect HossTheBoss.com to devote 4 hours to the contest twice a day: 2-6 a.m. and 2-6 p.m.
- We’ll do the live show, as usual, on Saturdays during the the usual time (only we’ll be finished by 6 p.m. every week, dang it), play it back Sunday morning at 2 a.m. and then replay it only twice more: at 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. each Wedneday.
- During the rest of the week, the 2 -6 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. time slots will feature an enhanced version of the non-DJ show that some of you have grown to like. We’ll play all of the songs that are still the contest each week, of course, but we’ll also toss in a few of the “bonus songs” that we’ve been known to play on the live show and, of course, we’ll also play several of the songs that were winners from the previous editions of the contest. (The way things work right now, we hardly ever play each month’s winning songs again until the December Finals, and I just don’t think that’s right, dang it.) We’ll also toss in some occasional “Best-of-Hoss’s Interviews” with bands and such.
So, the bottom line is this: if you’re used to listening to the replays and/or non-DJ shows at any time other than 2 a.m. – 6 a.m. or 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., well, that’s going away in a few days. Sorry. I hope you’re not too upset about that. (And, by the way, my audience data shows that very few people listen to those shows at times other than 2 a.m. -6 a.m. and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. anyway.)
This change is part of a whole stable of new shows that we’ll be adding to HossTheBoss.com’s daily line-up throughout the rest of June and July. Here’s a rundown of the plans for the other shows:
- HTB’s All Stars Show – 12 a.m. – 2 a.m. & 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. daily: This show will feature songs by the many bands HossTheBoss.com listeners have grown to know and love (but who, unfortunately, you may have a difficult time finding on other radio station).
- This Just In Show – 6 a.m. – 7 a.m. & 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. daily: This show will feature brand new songs that bands have sent us recently. Listeners will have a strong say in which of the songs stay around on the station each week.
- The Tony Kinsel Show – 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. & 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. daily – This show will be more of the same the folks are used to from Tony’s current show on Sunday nights. But we’ll just have more of all that great stuff. Tony really knows how to pick the dang songs!
- Hoss’s Biggest Name CDs Show – 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. & 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. daily – This show will feature songs off the most famous CDs we have in the HTB collection. Bands like Black Oak Arkansas, Kentucky Headhunters, David Alan Coe, and Ray Wylie Hubbard will be regulars on the show.
- CD of the Day Show – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 10 p.m. – 12: a.m. daily – On this show, Hoss will visit with a new band each day as he plays each song on one of their CDs. Listeners can sign up for “memberships” that will entitle them to free copies of CDs appearing on the show and to daily Mp3 downloads of Hoss’s featured songs.
Most of these shows have been in the planning stages for over a year, and getting them going has required more work than I’d figured. But all of that work is finally coming to a close, and we’ll be adding the shows one-at a time as they’re truly ready. (But, to be safe, I’m not going to promote any strict deadlines other than the June 21 date for the start of the new Hossey Music Awards Song Voting Contest Show. Just know that, by August, they should be all up and running.)
I’m curious for your thoughts on all of these plans. I’ll be reading any comments you post closely!
