Live acoustic music returns to HTB on Tuesday night, 7 p.m. central with Hoss's friend Clark Rossi. (Check here for more about Clark and to see schedule of show replays all this week.)

It’s been a while since I’ve had a singer stop by the luxurious penthouse studio overlooking the neighbor’s duplex, but, while that tradition may go and come for a little wile longer, it’s one that I vow will never end completely. (My plans are to do a regular show in which a new singer stops in with a guitar, some songs and some stories every week, but that — like everything else with HTB — is taking a good while to get set up.)

That said, my friend Clark Rossi is headed in to Corpus Christi from Hebronville, Texas (nearly 100 miles) tonight with his guitar. He’ll be hanging out with me starting at about 7 p.m. — our times are never exact — until he and I are ready to get up and get on down to the very cool little Open Mic Night they got going down at The House of Rock downtown.

Since Tony Kinsel is planning on cheating in the April edition of the Hossey Music Award song voting contest by playing his dang picks a few days ahead of time on his Sunday night show, you should know that I’ll be doing a little gamesmanship myself tonight: One of my picks in April is going to be from Clark’s new CD that he’ll be bringing with him tonight. So tonight’s show will likely feature some April campaigning.

If you miss tonight’s show, I will set it to replay on Weds – Friday right after Tony Kinsel’s show (8 a.m. Wednesday, 9 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. Friday) and then at 9 p.m. on Saturday night.

Clark, by the way, is the father of Pake Rossi, a talented young man who is a bit of an all-star on the Corpus Christi music scene. (He made it to the dang finals in the Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest Show in 2009, in fact.)

Oh yeah… Here’s Clark’s MySpace page.

Lots of people who are voting for Christian will be in Portland, Oregon for a convention honoring the very popular TV show he stars in -- and Hoss is planning to talk to people from the gathering on Saturday. Here's the details...

As everyone voting for Christian Kane in the March edition of the Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest Show probably already knows, their guy is also known to television viewers as the “bad ass” Elliot Spencer on TNT’s show Leverage.

While I probably surprised a few Kaniacs by admitting during my last live show that I’ve found Leverage a wee too violent for my taste, I am sure the people behind the show aren’t losing much sleep over my television choices. (I’m not a big TV guy — I run a dang radio station, remember — so I’m not a good representative of any show’s target demographic. ) In fact, the show seems to be impressing more than a few people these days. In just its second season (9 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesdays), its fans have already proved loyal enough to turn out for “Leverage Conventions,” and, what do you know, a dang convention is coming up this week (March 19-21) in Portland, Oregon.

Plenty of people who have voted for Christian Kane’s new song “House Rules” will be in Portland for this convention, including Dee Reeves, the woman who is mostly responsible for Christian being on the station this month. (Dee is a tireless supporter of Christian Kane’s friend Steve Calrson, and, after she helped push Steve to the Top of our contest in 2009, she didn’t stop working on me until I’d finally put Christian in the contest in 2010.) Dee has promised that she’ll have her lap-top and Skype connection going all weekend in Portland, and she’ll have several Christian Kane fans around waiting to chat with me on next week’s show. (So, there will be plenty of equal time opportunity for anyone mad at me for wishing Elliot Spencer was just a little more like, say, Gandhi.) Who knows? She might even be able to get a few big wigs behind Leverage to come on my show, too. (No pressure, Dee. You know how informal the dang show is, right? It’ll be fun talking to anyone you run into at the convention.)

Oh yeah, and, while we still haven’t made everything official, word is that Christian Kane himself is planning to be available to be on the show for a few minutes himself. It’s still too early for me to formally confirm any of the bands who will be on the show for Interview Week on March 20, but I’ll be sure to let you know when the details have all been worked out.

Oh yeah, and one more thing: I’m going to get as many friends and family as I can to come join me at my house for a dang Leverage watchin’ party Wednesday. (With my record, the party will be just me, Mrs. Hoss and Astro.) Who knows? I may change my mind about the dang show after watching another episode. My current judgement is based on a single episode I stumbled upon several months ago — well before I knew that Christian Kane was also a singer and would be appearing in my own dang silly contest. I’m not even sure I could tell you what plot of the episode I saw was about. I just remember Elliot Spencer beating several bad/tough guys silly. If that was my taste in television, there’s no doubt I would have been impressed. Who knows. My taste may have changed. If you’re keeping score at home, I’ll let you know on the next Hossey Music Awards Song Voting Contest Show live show, 2 p.m. Central Time, on Saturday, March 20.

Listen to the live show, beginning at 2 p.m. Central, on Saturday for details on this juicy story from our 2009 Hossey Music Award Champion. (If you miss the live show, it will replay all week long.)

The February 27 Hossey Award live show will feature the usual array of interviews and bonus songs from our Top 5 bands for February. But we also have some interesting news to pass along from the 2009 contest champion Steve Carlson.

Because I have learned well from watching nightly television newscasts, I will not be telling you this news here, dang it. You’ll have to listen to the show. (And you’ll have to listen to the whole dang show, because the news is coming at the very end, and never really know what time the show will end at any given week.) Or you’ll have to catch one of the replays.

After the last of the replays have aired (on March 5), I may go ahead and post a printed version of the story here on the site. But then again, I may not.

Just call me the King of Tease!

See Hoss's "endorsement" of his guest DJ in the February Hossey Music Awards Song Voting Contest Show.

This just in from my friend Mike Parrish one of my guest DJs in the February 2010 Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest Show. (And the 2nd place finisher in the 2009 contest with his song “Blue Jean Baby.”) I’m just pastin’ his dang email below:

“We asked YOU to help get us nominated for the 2010 Texas Music Awards and YOU DID!

“We’re very proud to say that out of 43,000 nominations YOU made us one of the TOP 5 BANDS in the entire State of Texas who were nominated for the 2010 Texas Music Awards LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR!

“Now that you’ve gotten us nominated we need your help ONE LAST TIME.

“The LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR award is decided by fan vote only. In other words, 100% friends and fans decide whether we win or not and no other boards, panels or judges are involved. This award is strictly up to you.

“We wouldn’t have received this extremely PRESTIGIOUS & COVETED nomination without your help so THANK YOU so very much simply for giving us the nomination for the biggest award of our careers!

“Now we just need your ONE-TIME vote to try to bag the award! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE NOMINATION & THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IN HELPING US WIN THE 2010 TEXAS MUSIC AWARD for LIVE BAND OF THE YEAR!!

“Please vote for MIKE PARRISH & the PARRISH-HUNDLEY BAND!!

www.texasmusicawards.org

Please remember our friends in these following categories;

Album of the Year – TIPS & COMPLIMENTS – MATT HARLAN

Disc Jockey of the Year – TOMMY MOUSER – KDOL 96.1 FM – LIVINGSTON

Broadcast Radio Station of the Year – KDOL 96.1 FM – LIVINGSTON

Okay… that’s the email Mike sent out to his fans. Now a note of endorsement from ole’ Hoss.

I don’t generally get involved with contests other than my own silly Hossey Music Award Contest (which I like to think of as somewhat of a parody of all other contests). But the Texas Music Awards always find a way to give recognition to deserving musicians (and broadcasters) who get ignored by too many others. So, while I don’t see myself ever getting overly active with them (or lobbying to get one of their awards), I certainly dig what they do. And, in exchange for all the support and friendship Mike Parrish has shown my own little venture over the last few months, how could I not formally endorse him for this award?

For the sake of full disclosure, I am obligated to admit that, as I write this, I’ve not yet checked to see who the other Live Band nominees are. There are several other musicians that I would say are deserving of this award who have been very supportive of HossTheBoss.com, too, so I’m actually a little reluctant to check the site and see who else is nominated this year. If one of my other friends turns out to also be nominated for Live Band of the Year, don’t be surprised if I end up doing a co-endorsement or two.

See why I don’t really like contests (even though I host one), dang it? Geez! Life is hard sometimes.

After you’re done voting for Mike Parrish, make sure you go buy his dang Texas in the Man CD and/or go check out Parrish/Hundley live. That’s the best way to support the guys, dang it!
