Thanks are due to Dillon Havins, aka Little Hoss, for agreeing to take over HossTheBoss.com in May 2012 when family obligations forced me to put this little project on the back burner. I’ve missed everyone, dang it!

Dillon’s music (along with all the other stuff that a cool teenage kid is into) has got him way to busy to do justice to this site.

So…

At 1:30 this afternoon, we made the switch again. HossTheBoss.com’s new-and-improved crappy ass computer and all of its broadcasting software is now back in Corpus Christi just waiting for me to set it up and start streaming again.

I’m working on a plan to bring the station back in a big, bold and profitable (especially for the musicians) way, and that’s going to take a while. So I’m not going to make any promises about when we’ll be going again. I’ll just tell you that, God willing, it WILL happen.

I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can stay in touch with me via my real-guy blog site at www.doncudd.com. I’ve been updating that thing every day for several months and a lot of people think I’ve become some kind of religious nut since HossTheBoss.com quit streaming. I always tell those people that they’re just not reading the dang posts.

See ya’ll back here someday when you least expect it!

Most months on the Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest show we do interviews of bands in our Top 10 during the second-to-last show of the month. Well, April was a tough month, and we had to cancel our last two shows. But, luckily, before we canceled anything, Tony Kinsel and Hoss had already pre-recorded a fun little interview with the legendary Cody Canada. This interview never had an opportunity to air on the station, but don’t let that stop you from downloading it right now.

Here the Interview

Sunday, May 27th, starting at 7pm CT, I’ll, once again, be “unfairly promoting” my picks for June’s? Hossey Music Awards Song-Voting Contest, in this order: 484 South Band–I Drown; Annika Horne–I Love; Chaparral–Down To The River; Chicken Pot Pie–Beg Steal Borrow; Chris Tardiff & Showdown–Hillbilly Bone; Hellcat Susie w/Jason Boland & Mike McClure–I’ll Fly Away; Karen Collins & The Backroads Band–No Yodelin’ On The Radio; Scufflegrit–Walker County Coal; Shane Howard Band–Lick It, Slam It, Suck It; The B’Dinas–Five-Day Weekend; The Kickin Grass Band–Hometown; The Morning After–To Love A Machine; The Roadhouse Clams–Lauderdale Stomp; The Wild Orchids (Michelle & Melinda)–Can’t Bring You Home; & The Trevor Cole Band–She’s Better When She’s Bad. After I play these 15 songs, I’ll play more music from these same fine artists, so “Don’t Miss “Em, Dang It”, as Hoss has been known to say!! (The reason I’m now saying these picks are for June’s contest with a question mark, is that Hoss has been having some behind the scenes issues, and, at this point, can’t even say for sure we’ll be back in June. We can only hope!) The last couple of Sundays, I’ve been unable to do my show, thanks to technical problems with the site. I’m going to try this one more time on May 27th!!

Well... more bad news for the April edition of the Hossey Music Award Song Voting Contest Show! Hoss's brother-in-law Clyde Scherdin (a quiet-but-devoted fan of the show) passed on Thursday after a tough fight with cancer. Accordingly, the final show of the month, planned for April 27 at 2 p.m. Central, has been canceled so Hoss can devote that time to supporting Clyde's many friends and family. This means, of course, that the April contest has ended anti-climatically without benefit of a live show. But, alas, that's life. Click here to see our Top 5 finishers from the April show -- and, in light of all the problems we had in April, the following contestants will be back in May: Laney Merideth, Dennis Gurwell, Alec Berlin, Susan Gibson and probably at least one or two others. The May contest will begin with our first live show of the month at 2 p.m. on May 11 (yes, that means we're devoting the week of May 4 to maintaining our computer and updating our site!)

Hoss named Tony “Guest DJ of the Year for 2008,” and he’s been a guest DJ in every single contest to date. So here he is, yet again, with his April 2012 picks. Oh yeah, make sure you listen to Tony’s own dang show every day from 7-9 a.m. and p.m. Central Time. (He is live on Sunday nights.)

I’m Tony, and these are my April 2012 picks…

Cody Angel–Red House
(Port Aransas, Tx.)<var id="yiv304994038yui-ie-cursor"></var>

Cody Angel is from Port Aransas, Texas, playing Blues & Rock Music. The 17 year old guitar phenomenon has been in several contests here on HTB, the last one last January. He says on his ReverbNation page that he loves to play the Blues, and only plays enough Rock music to get gigs so he can play the Blues. I chose his cover of the famous Jimi Hendrix Blues song “Red House” for his entry in this month’s contest. For more info on Cody Angel, visit his ReverbNation page, www.reverbnation.com/codyangel, or his website, www.codyangelmusic.com…

Cody Canada & The Departed–Ballad Of Rosalie
(Austin, Tx.)

Cody Canada & The Departed are from Austin, Texas, playing Red Dirt Music. Of course, every one who is into the Texas music scene knows who Cody Canada is, from his years playing with Cross Canadian Ragweed, which has now decided to part ways. Cody has now formed The Departed, with his old friend and CCR bandmate Jeremy Plato on bass, Seth James on guitar, Steve Littleton on keyboards & B3 organ, and Dave Bowen on drums. For their entry in this month’s contest, I chose the song “Ballad Of Rosalie” off their debut cd “This Is Indian Land”, which Cody says is a tribute to the greats of the Oklahoma Red Dirt Movement. For more info on Cody Canada & The Departed, visit their website. www.thedepartedmusic.com…

Cody Gill Band–King Of Your Hometown
(<var id="yiv2110175318yui-ie-cursor"></var>Stephenville, Tx.)

The Cody Gill Band is from Stephenville, Texas, playing Alternative, Texas Country & Southern Rock Music. Cody Gill has been playing music for more than a decade now, and has 2 full length cds, and 1 EP cd to his credit. For his entry in this month’s contest, I chose the title track of his self-produced 2nd cd, “King Of Your Hometown”, which has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it in 2009. For more info on The Cody Gill Band, visit their website, www.codygillmusic.com, or their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codygillmusic, which has links to their other social media sites, like MySpace, Facebook & Twitter…

Cody Ives Band–Rainy Day
(Little Rock, Arkansas)<var id="yiv304994038yui-ie-cursor"></var>

The Cody Ives Band is from Little Rock, Arkansas, playing Country & Southern Rock Music. They’re a 6-man band, featuring Cody Ives on vocals, Steve Zimmerebner on lead guitar, Aubry Montgomery on guitar, Chris Johns on bass, Johnathan Beech on keyboard, & Rex Furry on drums. I had the CIB, as they’re called, in last month’s contest with a song called “When We Roll”, which made it to 10th place. This month, I chose their song “Rainy Day” as their entry. I hope you vote it into the top 5, where it belongs. For more info on The Cody Ives Band, visit their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codyivesband, which has links to their other social media sites, like Twitter, MySpace & Facebook. If you’d like to see them perform, They’ll be playing at The Black Dog Grill in Clinton, Ark. on Sat. Apr.14th, starting at 9pm, and Friday, April 20th, they’ll be at Trojanfest on the campus of The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, starting at 3pm…

Cody Johnson Band–Pray For Rain
(Huntsville, Tx.)

The Cody Johnson Band (also known as Cody Johnson & The Rockin’ CJB) is from Huntsville, Texas, playing Texas Country & Red Dirt Music. They’re a 6-man band, consisting of Cody Johnson, Nathan Reedy, Matt Rogers, Danny Salinas, Jody Bartula, & Jeff Smith. CoJo, as he’s called, says on his website that “I don’t want to be labeled as “Texas” or “Nashville”. I am me: Texas, outlaw, cowboy, country, and a God-fearing man, using the gift He gave me.” I chose the song “Pray For Rain” off their “<var id="yui-ie-cursor"></var>Six Strings, One Dream” album, as their contest entry this month. It made it to #1 on the Texas Music charts from 2009-2010. For more info on The Cody Johnson Band, visit their website, www.thecodyjohnsonband.com, or their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codyjohnsonband...

Cody McCarver–Outlaws & Trains
(Dunlap, Tennesse)

Cody McCarver is from Dunlap, Tennesse, playing Country Music. Cody has had several top 20 singles since he released his self-titled cd in 2007, “Red Flag”, “White Trash With Money”, and “I’m America”, featuring Charlie Daniels. Cody’s song “Through God’s Eyes” (about his parents Bill & Delilah), has spawned a documentary film entitled “Cody McCarver Behind The Walls”, which was shot at the penitentiary where Cody’s father is incarcerated. Cody is currently working with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America program that deals with children of inmate parents. For his entry in this month’s contest, I chose his new single release “Outlaws & Trains”, which is featured in the soundtrack of a movie called “Cole Younger And The Black Train”, that’s due out the middle of this month. Cody plays Cole Younger in the movie, which also features Michael Madsen. For more info on Cody McCarver, check out his RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codymccarver, which also has a link to his Facebook page…

Cody Rentas Band–Leave
(Seattle, Washington)<var id="yiv1875325511yui-ie-cursor"></var>

The Cody Rentas Band is from Seattle, Washington, playing Blues & Rock Music. They’re a 4-man band, consisting of Cody Rentas on guitar & vocals, Rick Doyle on bass, Lee Rentas on drums & vocals, & Scott Schmeckpeper on keyboards & vocals. Cody started playing guitar at the age of 6, and now, at 19, has turned himself into just about the hottest singer/songwriter/guitar player in the northwest United States. When I asked for permission to play his music, he was all for it, wanting his music to be heard in Texas. He also sent me a number of songs off his current cd, including the one I chose for this month’s contest, a Blues song called “Leave”. For more info on The Cody Rentas band, visit their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/thecodyrentasband, which also has links to their Facebook & MySpace pages…

Cody Riley Band–Small Town RockStars
(Canton, T<var id="yiv1248720285yui-ie-cursor"></var>x.)

The Cody Riley Band is from Canton, Texas, playing Texas Country Music. They’re a 4-man band, consisting of Cody Riley on lead vocals & rhythm guitar, Kenny Daniel on bass guitar, Cye Carter on lead guitar, and Chevy on drums. Cody is the winner of the 2009 Texas Music Awards Rising Star Award. I’ve chosen the title track of their cd “Small Town RockStars” for their entry in this month’s contest. If you’d like to see them perform, their next gig will be at K.E. Bushman’s Winery & Celebration Center in Bullard, Texas, on Saturday, May 12th, starting at 6 pm. For more info on The Cody Riley Band, visit their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codyrileyband, which also has links to their Facebook, Twitter, & MySpace pages…

(Bowie,Tx.)<var id="yiv559136014yui-ie-cursor"></var>

The Cody Robbins Band is from Bowie, Texas, playing Texas Country Music. They’re a 5-man band, consisting of Cody Robbins on vocals & rhythm guitar, Cody’s father Jerry on steel guitar, Scott Huckabee on lead guitar, Tracy Frerich on bass, & Boyd Dixon on drums. The CRB (as they’re called) have been getting national attention since the release of their debut cd in 2010, “My Inner Hank”. I’ve decided to use the song “Barflies & Bud Light” off of that cd for their contest entry this month. If you’d like to see the CRB in concert, they’ll be at Cutters Dancehall in Denison, Texas, tonight, April 6th, & Saturday, April 7th, starting at 8pm both nights. For more info on The Cody Robbins Band, visit their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codyrobbinsband, which also has links to their Facebook, MySpace & Twitter pages…

Cody Timmons Project–Little Less Sober
(New Braunfels, Tx.)

The Cody Timmons Project is from New Braunfels, Texas, playing Texas Country Music. Cody has been around the music scene since the early 90’s. He has a degree in Sound Technology, and has been working behind the scenes for people like Mickey Gilley in Branson, Missourri. He and his brother also spent some time in Nashville, writing music and performing at various open-mic nites, until they decided to move back to Texas, “where they belong”, as he says on ReverbNation. The CTP is actually a pick of Hoss’s from earlier this year, but I chose a different song than he did for their entry in this month’s contest, “Little Less Sober”, which is available for free download on their ReverbNation page. For more info on The Cody Timmons Project, visit their website, www.codytimmonsproject.com, or their RN page, www.reverbnation.com/codytimmonsband, which also has links to their Facebook & MySpace pages…

About Me:

I got started in broadcasting during my stint as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam era, working part-time as a DJ and newsman for a ship-board Armed Forces Radio & TV station on the USS Truckee out of Norfolk, Virginia. After being honorably discharged in 1979, I became a mainstream radio DJ and News Director in the Corpus Christi area for over 25 years on 9 different stations, including all 3 of the country-western ones. During that time I received 4 news broadcasting awards, 1 from the Associated Press & 3 from United Press International. I spent the last 5 years of my “career” on KFTX in Corpus Christi, constantly fighting with the program director over having to play their narrow top-ten Nashville music playlist of songs, when I really wanted to play Texas Music. I was finally shown the door after I played a Christmas-time phone request for Robert Earl Keen’s “Merry Christmas From The Family”, which was definitely not on the station’s playlist, (I really hate that word!). Now that I’m on HossTheBoss I can play what I want. Listen to my own dang show on the station every Sunday night at 7 p.m. Central.
